According to one study done at the Columbia
College of Physicians and Surgeons on yogic breathing techniques, yoga
[was found] to be a beneficial, low-risk, low-cost adjunct to the
treatment of stress, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD),
depression, stress-related medical illnesses, substance abuse, and
rehabilitation of criminal offenders". It has also been shown to be
beneficial in enhancing cardiorespiratory performance and help create an
overall sense of well being, most likely due to increased melatonin
secretions. |
